It’s Career Fair Season!
SCMWDP members were in full force at the recent Hoover High School Career Fair in February and the JA Career Exploration Fair in March. Many of our local high schools and career centers will be holding events throughout spring. These events are great opportunities to promote the diverse jobs in manufacturing, promote local career pathways and build your organization’s brand recognition with Stark County’s educators and students.

Ohio Higher Education Tuition Assistance Programs for STEM
The following State of Ohio tuition programs might apply to individuals or future staff occupying STEM positions in your organization. STEM is a broad field and can include engineers, accountants, research/development personnel, lab technicians and other job descriptions. This can be a great recruiting tool and employee benefit to help keep our talent in Stark County and Ohio.
- Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program: This state-funded program aims to increase the number of graduates in STEM fields by providing scholarships to Ohio residents pursuing STEM degrees at participating Ohio colleges and universities. While it focuses on scholarships rather than loan forgiveness, it supports students entering STEM careers within Ohio. Learn more here
- Ohio College Comeback Compact: This program offers up to $5,000 in institutional debt forgiveness for students who re-enroll and complete at least two semesters at participating North East Ohio institutions. While not exclusive to STEM graduates, it aims to reengage students with some college experience to complete their degrees. Lean more here
2nd Graders Learn about Manufacturing

The inaugural Second Grade Coloring Contest, called “Marvelous Manufacturing” was a phenomenal success! With the help of Stark Education Partnership in promoting the event and communicating with ALL second-grade teachers in Stark County, over 700 students submitted entries. These students represented 16 different school systems and 99 unique second grade teachers and classrooms.

Ohio Gratings, Inc provided the artwork and final judging. Awards were given to the top 3 students and a pizza party was held for the classroom with the most entries which was Ms. Joan Kostiuk from Lake Elementary! The SCMWDP is making an impact on our young citizens to help them think about manufacturing as a viable career pathway!

SCMWDP has strategically launched programs that introduce manufacturing and career pathways to second graders, middle school students and high school students. These multiple touchpoints reinforce the idea to our Stark County youth (and their parents) that local companies and opportunities in manufacturing are alive and thriving. This supports the mission of SCMWDP to increase the capacity of manufacturing workforce in Stark County, both now and in the future.
